Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Mario Batali The Italian Kitchen Collection Garlic SlicerCustomer Review: Garlic Slicer/Shredder Summary: 3 Stars
The garlic slicer/shredder is okay once you figure out how much pressure to apply to the pusher when slicing or shredding. Press on the pusher to hard and the hopper will come off. As for shredding, it doesn't perform any better than a decent garlic press OXO Steel 58181 Garlic Press, Stainless since all of the garlic doesn't get shredded. The slicing side will slice but again, not the whole clove so a knife performs better in that regard. But the slicer produces thinner slices than what I can get with a knife. Also, this works best with one clove at a time. It's not a bad tool but it hasn't improved or enhanced anything for me in the kitchen so I don't consider it to be an essential item, and I wouldn't buy it again.
Description of Mario Batali The Italian Kitchen Collection Garlic SlicerMario states that for full flavor and essence, try slicing or grating your garlic rather than pressing. In his campaign for accessible, delicious food, Mario Batali is one of the most popular chefs and restaurateurs in the world. Created by Copco and inspired by Batali, the Italian Kitchen line of cookware and tools reflects the famous chef's philosophy that great food needs no gimmicks. Durable, versatile, and high quality, the collection is perfect for the active home chef. This clever garlic slicer lets you speedily prep whole cloves instead of losing half the garlic to a press. With dual cutting surfaces, the unit slices or grates, and the simple structure keeps fingers away from sharp parts. The tip is non-slip for stability, and the contoured handle is comfortable to grasp. A grommet allows for hanging storage, and the whole slicer is safe in the dishwasher for convenient cleanup. --Emily Bedard
